Life brings an abundance of opportunities our way. In 2002, I had the opportunity and blessing to teach at Ashland University. During my time at Ashland, I got the opportunity to know and to engage in witty banter with Dan Lehman and Joe Mackall, the founders of The River Teeth Journal. Their care and concern for the written word as they present it in their writings as well as how they presented it within the pages of their journal has always astounded me. This understanding of the care that they give to words made honoring them the reason for renaming the Long in the Teech Creative NonFiction Chapbook Award to the Lehman-Mackall Long in the Teeth Creative Nonfiction Award.
